Poem Response Essay - 752 Words

In just one paper, I am going to go from two inspirational poems, to a more depressing one. The inspirational poem I will be responding to is â€Å"The Tyger†, written by William Blake. This piece is by far one of my favorite poems read. I read it often just to remind me not to wimp around with my lifting and my getting bigger, just like the song by Survivor, â€Å"Eye of the Tiger†, does for me. It keeps in mind what it’s going to take to do this. The second piece of inspiration I like is, â€Å"I will put Chaos into fourteen lines†, by Edna St. Vincent Millay. On a depressing side of things, I am then moving on to a more disheartening type of poem. The author tries to describe how to attempt to hold chaos back. Through this poem, she describes chaos as a male type of thing by constantly referring to chaos using he, his, and him. She shows chaos’s many features, such as its â€Å"adroit designs†, amorphous shapes, and it’s arrogance. I don’t like how the author tries to contain chaos, because really it could never happen. Chaos is something that once released or started, is a very hard thing to get put down or stopped. I know that this is under the title of the poem, that she is putting chaos into the fourteen lines, but I still don’t like how it’s written. I think the poem should be more uncontrolled, and having the chaos breaking out of the poem in the e nd. Stage 2 English Communications – War Poetry War has an everlasting effect on the entire world, but the one group of people that have the worst experience are those that are on the frontline – the soldiers. They are often glorified and portrayed to be patriots for their country, which is frequently conveyed through poetry. I disagree with this view, and the following three poems written by past soldiers support my view on war. Siegfried Sassoon is a renowned World War 1 poet who was in service from 1914 to 1917, when he then took a stand against the conduct of war. When Sassoon first began writing his poetry, he did so with an air of romance and sweetness. After becoming horrified by the reality of war, his writing then became†¦show more content†¦He believes it is dark, evil and depressing, and while the soldiers are sent to hell, some remain there whilst others bring pieces of it back home with them. He wants those in the crowd to pray they’ll never know what he and many others have lived, and died, through. Sgt. James Lenihan served in the Second World War in the 104th infantry division, where he toured Europe fighting. He was wounded in action and received a purple heart, though he never spoke about his experiences in the war with his family. After his passing in 2007, his family found a poem that he wrote where he describes his experience in killing a man in action. The poem is titled Murder: Most Foul, which is borrowed from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It has six 4-lined stanzas and a final 5-lined stanza, with each having different rhyming patterns. The first two stanzas have the pattern ABCDEBCD, stanzas three through six have the pattern ABCB, and the 5-line stanza has the pattern ABCDB. The poem utilizes multiple techniques including repetition, rhyme, imagery and metaphor. Lenihan uses the terms ‘surprise’ and ‘strangest’ to convey the rarity and unusualness of what was happening. He began to cry for he killed fellow man in cold blood. Perhaps the most simple of these can be found in the The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, which states that science fiction is fiction dealing principally with the impact of actual or imagined science on society or individuals (652). Motor Vehicles (AMENDMENT) Act 2000 1. Short title. This Act may be called the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2000 2. Substitution of new section for section 52. For section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), the following section shall be substituted, namely: 52. Alteration in motor vehicle. 1) No owner of a motor vehicle shall so alter the vehicle that the particulars contained in the certificate of registration are at variance with those originally specified by the manufacturer: Provided that where the owner of a motor vehicle makes modification of the engine, or any part thereof, of a vehicle for facilitating its operation by different type of fuel or source of energy including battery, compressed natural gas, solar power, liquid petroleum gas or any other fuel or source of energy, by fitment of a conversion kit, such modification shall be carried out subject to such conditions as may be prescribed: Provided further t hat the Central Government may prescribe specifications, conditions for approval, retro fitment and other related matters for such conversion kits: Provided also that the Central Government may grant exemption for alteration of vehicles in a manner other than specified above, for any specific purpose 2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), a State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, authorize, subject to such conditions as may be specified in the notification, and permit any person owning not less than ten transport vehicles to alter any vehicle owned by him so as to replace the engine thereof with engine of the same make and type, without the approval of registering authority (3) Where any alteration has been made in motor vehicle without the approval of registering authority or by reason of replacement of its engine without such approval under sub-section (2), the owner of the vehicle shall, within fourteen days of the making of the alteratio n, report the alteration to the registering authority within whose jurisdiction he resides and shall forward he certificate of registration to that authority together with the prescribed fee in order that particulars of registration ma be entered therein (4) A registering authority other than the original registering authority making any such entry shall communicate the details of the entry to the original registering authority (2) (5) Subject to the provisions made under sub-sections (1), (2), (3) and (4), no person holding a vehicle under a hire-purchase agreement shall make any alteration to the vehicle except with the written consent of the registered owner Explanation. After section 217 of the principal Act, the following section shall be inserted, namely: 217A. Renewal of permits, driving licenses and registration granted under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939. Notwithstanding the repeal by sub-section (1) of section 217 of the enactments referred to in that sub-section, any certificate of fitness or registration or license or permit issued or granted under the said enactments may be renewed under this Act.
